People living in the village of Topolovka in the Northern Evenki District of the Magadan Region have saved two beluga whales stranded at low tide.
According to Vladimir Velichko, head of the Northern Evenki District, the beluga whales came to hunt herring going to spawn, but were unable to return to the sea.
Velichko said that the entire village had helped to save the whales: 17 people, both adults and children, poured water on the beluga whales from 2 pm to 10 pm and covered them with wet rags. After the tide rose, the beluga whales swam off into the sea on their own.
The district head added that such incidents happened in the bay every year.
“We are waiting for new guests: humpback whales and orcas will come here soon,” Velichko said.
