23 October 2019

On 23 October, another 11 beluga whales from Srednyaya Bay were released into the wild in the Sakhalin Gulf, near the Baidukov and Chkalov islands. This marks the successful completion of the sixth stage of the plan to release the marine mammals into their natural habitat, as reports the Russian Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO).

“The marine mammals were brought to the Sakhalin Gulf by ship and released into their traditional habitat,” the VNIRO website reported.

VNIRO’s Zodiak research vessel took 11 beluga whales on board on 18 October in Srednyaya Bay and delivered them to the Sakhalin Gulf for release. The animals handled the journey well.

Now VNIRO scientists are preparing for the next stage of release.
