22 February 2019

Following an inspection by the Prosecutor General’s Office concerning the implementation of legislation related to management, protection and utilisation of marine mammals, including in the Srednyaya Bay, President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to address issues related to their management, subsequent utilisation and upkeep and, if necessary, introduce amendments to the legislation of the Russian Federation.

Srednyaya Bay is home to about 90 young white whales who have not reached puberty, 13 of which are under one year.
