Ten young white whales, four males and six females, caught in the Okhotsk Sea, were brought to Srednyaya Bay in August 2009 to adapt them to a new habitat: an artificial environment. It is only now that scientists have decided to allow visitors.

The facility is mainly concerned with research. In the dolphinarium, the staff of the Pacific Research Fisheries Center, in cooperation with foreign scientists, studies the biology of sea animals and their reproduction in captivity.
