New leopard seen in national park in Primorye Territory

15 February 2023

Two leopards have been sighted during an air monitoring mission in Land of the Leopard National Park. One of them had never been captured by a camera trap before. The other one has been identified as female leopard Leo 158F, who was captured by a camera trap in the summer of 2021.

The latest images taken from a helicopter have provided new information about Leo 158F, namely, that this female leopard is well nourished and prefers company when she walks around. Experts hope that more photos captured by camera traps will help them establish where the secretive female was heading.

The latest photographs were taken during the aerial monitoring of hoofed animals. This year’s winter monitoring session was held in the national park to evaluate the population density of certain animal species.
