Leo 114F gets a new name

31 January 2023

A unique name, Fortuna, was given to one of the 121 Far Eastern leopards living in Land of the Leopard National Park in the Primorye Territory. For the first time, an online volunteer, who has been helping the park’s staff for several years, chose the name for the rare cat.

The new name went to the female leopard Leo 114F, who lives in the central part of Land of the Leopard National Park. Now the predator is called Fortuna, in honour of the goddess of luck. Her Keeper is Anton Gavrev, a designer from Vladivostok. As a volunteer, he creates logos for projects and events, banners and other media materials for Land of the Leopard.

“Nature is amazing; it will recover if you give it a chance. Therefore, national parks and reserves are so important, as well as the help of caring people. Together we can save the treasure where we are happy to live: our planet,” Anton Gavrev said.

Collaboration with volunteers is an integral part of Land of the Leopard’s work. The national park holds annual events such as cedar planting, cleanups, park improvements and infrastructure repairs with the active involvement of volunteers.
