The Minayev family from Moscow gave a name to the Far Eastern leopard Leo 171F as part of the Leopard Keeper programme. One of the world’s rarest cats that lives in Land of the Leopard National Park was named Zakharra in honour of a character from a fantasy book series.

“Our children were inspired to take part in the Leopard Keeper programme, and it helped them to choose such a beautiful name,” said Valery Minayev. “We love nature, and like many others, try to make our contribution to the conservation of the environment.

When they learned about the issues related to the conservation of Far Eastern leopard, the family decided to make a donation to the national park. Their financial aid has already been used to purchase new radio stations for state inspectors, which will help to improve the effectiveness of efforts to protect the park that is home to 110 adult leopards.

Zakharra the leopardess is about three years old. She lives in the heart of Land of the Leopard, in its central part. Trail cameras often spot her on mountain ranges hunting. The images show that she is in great health and loves to sunbathe and play.
