10 March 2021

Trail cameras in Land of the Leopard National Park have shown that Far Eastern leopardess Queen Borte (Leo 16F), who survived after falling into a poacher’s trap, has regained her strength and even given birth to cubs.

Queen Borte fell into a trap set for hooved animals in China. However, she managed to get out of it and returned to Land of the Leopard National Park. The analysis of trail camera images has shown that Queen Borte not only just survived but also has given birth to two cubs. The leopardess and her new offspring look healthy.

Film actor Steven Seagal became the keeper of the Far Eastern leopard Leo 16F in 2015. He named her Queen Borte after Genghis Khan’s first wife, who had many children.
