The number of Far Eastern leopards has increased from 91 to 97 over a period of just one year, according to Land of the Leopard National Park in the Primorye Territory, which quoted scientific data for 2019.
“In 2019, 97 grownup leopards and 31 grownup tigers were recorded at Land of the Leopard. A good continuous number of these rare cats is ensured by a reliable protection system and growth in the population of wild ungulates – up to 22,000 sika deer, roe deer and wild boars,” the report says.
Land of the Leopard National Park is home to the world’s rarest wild cat – the Far Eastern leopard. These predators only live in the south-west of the Primorye Territory and a small part of Chinese territory bordering on Russia and, possibly, in North Korea. Most of them live in the national park. In 2018, 91 grownup leopards and 22 cubs were recorded there.
