Largest leopard conservation centre to open in Primorye Territory

13 September 2017

Land of the Leopard has completed construction of its central compound in the Khasan District of the Primorye Territory. The opening ceremony will take place on 20 September. The central compound, which sits on 5 hectares, is located on the outskirts of the village of Barabash. Eco-friendly materials were used to build the new facility, which will become the scientific, educational and tourist centre of the national park.

Land of the Leopard’s central compound is the world's largest centre for the conservation and study of rare cats. The building complex includes an emergency response headquarters, a garage for the vehicle fleet, an office building, a hotel, a museum, a large conference hall, and rooms for lectures and seminars

"The central compound is the face of Land of the Leopard. Here we can present the territory and all the biodiversity, provide all the possibilities for science and education. The compound will become a discussion and dialogue platform for the authorities, scientists and ecologists. It can also serve as a kind of cultural centre for local residents, which could give impetus to ecotourism development in the Khasan District," said Tatyana Baranovskaya, director of Land of the Leopard.

On 20 September, all new Land of the Leopard buildings, a museum exposition and an exhibition of special equipment will open. To mark the event, a concert will be held featuring friends of Land of the Leopard from local schools.
