The number of Far Eastern leopards has increased by 10 cubs that were born in Land of the Leopard National Park in 2016, Ivan Rakov, press secretary of Land of the Leopard, told journalists at the news conference devoted to the centennial anniversary of Kedrovaya Pad Nature Reserve.

“After we managed to increase the number of Far Eastern leopards from 30 to 80, which was a breakthrough achievement, their population has been growing consistently. Leopards mate and have cubs: 16 cubs were born last year and 10 this year,” Ivan Rakov said.

The official said that researchers have not added these cubs to the total number of the leopards, which is still officially 80, because not all cubs survive in the wild. Overall, the number of rare cats in the national park has increased by 10 tiger cubs and 26 leopard cubs over the past 18 months.
