New calendar with drawings of Far Eastern leopards published

22 June 2015

A 2016 wall calendar of drawings entitled One Day in the Life of the Far Eastern Leopard has been published in Vladivostok. The drawings were made by schoolchildren who won the contests held by the Phoenix Fund and the Land of the Leopard National Park.

The Amur tiger and the Far Eastern leopard drawing contests began in early 2015. Schoolchildren in the Russian Far East were asked to draw pictures of these unique cats of the Primorye Territory in their natural habitat. The jury received over 2,500 drawings, choosing the best for the calendars Let’s Protect Far Eastern Leopards Together and Let’s Protect Amur Tigers Together.

The Phoenix Fund held its first children’s drawing contest at Far Eastern schools 10 years ago, and this year is the second time that the contest was held jointly with the Land of the Leopard National Park. More and more regions have been joining the contest. The 2015 participants included children from the Primorye and Khabarovsk territories and the Amur and Sverdlovsk regions. The jury also received drawings from South Korea and China.
