Far Eastern universities to train specialists in the study and conservation of leopards

22 March 2014

On March 21, a working meeting was held on developing measures for the conservation of the Far Eastern leopard in the Primorye Territory. The meeting was attended by Chief of the Presidential Control Directorate Konstantin Chuychenko and representatives of scientific and educational institutions.

According to Mr Chuychenko, one of the key priorities is training skilled and competent specialists in this area and supporting students who are engaged in the conservation and study of the unique flora and fauna of Russia’s Far East, including the Amur (Siberian) tiger and the Far Eastern leopard.

The Far Eastern Federal University will start to train such specialists this year. For this purpose, a special master’s programme will be launched focused on scientific and research work. Students will also be involved in the activities of state and public organisations.
