On 31 January 2014, the Joint Directorate of the Kedrovaya Pad State Nature Reserve and Leopard Land National Park signed a cooperation agreement with the Federal Drug Control Service. The sides will coordinate their activities in line with this document.
“Considering the fact that both specially protected nature territories have an area of over 260,000 hectares, and that Leopard Land National Park is located far away from major cities and in close proximity to the Russian-Chinese border, the signing of the agreement is an effective step in the effort to prevent various threats at Leopard Land National Park and the Kedrovaya Pad Reserve,” said Director of Leopard Land National Park Andrei Borodin.
The agreement stipulates information sharing in the interests of locating drug-producing plants growing at the Kedrovaya Pad Reserve and the Leopard Land National Park and monitoring any instances of illegal trafficking. The agreement aims to ensure the comprehensive and effective use of both sides’ resources and capabilities as they perform their respective functions. The document also includes provisions on training employees of Leopard Land National Park to locate caches of cannabis. In addition, it stipulates preventive measures, including joint media campaigns.
