Good news from trail cameras

Good news from trail cameras

10 October 2013

Employees of the Scientific Department of Land of the Leopard National Park have received the first pictures of a female Far Eastern leopard and its kitten from camera traps purchased this year for a large-scale census of the Far Eastern leopard throughout Land of the Leopard National Park and the Kedrovaya Pad Nature Reserve.

The pictures were received from trail cameras set in the valley of the Malaya Kedrovka River in the protected zone of the national park. The kitten’s age is four to five months. However, it is difficult to identify its gender judging from the photo.

Data received from trail cameras help scientists to assess not just the population of the Far Eastern leopard but also its reproduction rate. The pictures of the female leopard with its kitten show a positive tendency in the population of this predator.
