Far Eastern leopards to be released from zoos in Primorye Territory

23 July 2013

Scientists from the Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with their colleagues from the Ussuri Nature Reserve of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have created a Rehabilitation and Reintroduction Centre for Far Eastern leopards within an area of the reserve. Far Eastern leopards from Russian and foreign zoos will be transported there to be later released into the wild.

The centre is ready to receive the animals and prepare them for their life in the wildlife sanctuary. This will hopefully increase the leopard numbers and provide a chance for them to repopulate the areas once inhabited by their species in the past.
