Leopard Land National Park turns one

10 April 2013

Leopard Land National Park, located in Russia’s Primorye Territory, turned one on April 5. Exactly one year ago, this 260,000-hectare area was designated a nature reserve and became home to what is now the rarest feline species on Earth.

“Eight new leopards were sighted last year on the grounds of the national park and the sanctuary,” Director Andrei Borodin said. “So we have every reason to expect a population of up to 100-120 to emerge, which will guarantee the species’ survival. We must make sure that our children and grandchildren can see this gorgeous cat [in person].”
