Five forest guard stations to be built in Leopard Land national park in Primorye

Five quick-assemble two-storey forest guard stations are being built in the Leopard Land national park in Russia’s Primorye Territory. Leopard Land is the first local nature preserve to get these convenient facilities, which have a garage and workshop space, tool storage on the first floor and sleeping quarters upstairs.

Good living conditions are very important for the effective performance of forest guards, said park director Andrei Borodin.

“Our common task is to monitor a 262,000 hectare area, and maintain comfortable conditions for the Far Eastern Leopard’s living and reproduction,” Borodin added.

These forest guard stations have proved very effective in Baikal National Park near Lake Baikal and Kronotsky National Park on Kamchatka.

The Eurasian Center for Leopard Population Research, Preservation and Recovery financed the purchase, delivery and mounting of the five prefabricated facilities.

The first one has been completed in Bamburovo; the others will be ready by early 2013. The prefabricated parts were delivered to the national park in trailers from Baikalsk, the city where the producer of the quick-assemble stations is located.
