2 November 2012

Inspectors at the recently created Leopard Land national park in the Primorye Territory have suppressed over 200 environmental violations since early autumn.

A total of 215 reports of administrative offences were drawn up between September and October 2012, or 200% more than during the first nine months of this year. Nine offenders will face criminal liability. The amount of exacted fines exceeds 250,000 roubles, of which 28,000 has been levied in favour of the national park.

More specifically, 150 persons were fined for off-road driving and parking, and 36 for illegal burning of fires and pitching of tents.

Sweep-and-clean operations in the Leopard Land national park resulted in security guards confiscating 123 illegally-caught Siberian salmons and 11 illegal units of fishing tackle. The relevant crime reports were handed over to the Interior Ministry Directorate for the Khasan District, Primorye Territory. Under the Russian Federation's Criminal Code, the offenders are to pay between 100,000 and 300,000 roubles in fines or spend between four to six months behind bars.
